Imphal: In a resolute demonstration of its commitment to public welfare and bolster the Prime Minister’s vision of a healthier India, the Assam Rifles organised a series of multifaceted health initiatives across various districts of Manipur on 12 May 2026. These programmes, ranging from grassroots medical camps to intensive awareness drives, underscored the force’s dual role as the ‘Sentinels of the Northeast’ and a dedicated partner in civilian well-being. By intertwining local community outreach with national health objectives, the Assam Rifles successfully bridged the gap between remote populations and essential healthcare knowledge.
The day’s activities commenced with a dedicated focus on the ‘TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan – 100 Days Campaign’ conducted at both the Mantripukhri Garrison in Imphal West and the Keithelmanbi Garrison in Imphal East. These sessions were meticulously designed to sensitise
a combined total of more than 150 personnel on the gravity of Tuberculosis and the collective responsibility required to eliminate the disease by 2025. Medical experts provided comprehensive insights into the symptoms, transmission modes, and the critical importance of treatment adherence to prevent drug-resistant strains. By disseminating information regarding the National TB Elimination Programme, the force ensured that its members are well-equipped to act as ambassadors of health within their own families and the wider community.
Extending this healing touch to the civilian populace, a significant medical screening camp was hosted at Shangshak in the Ukhrul district to commemorate International Nurses Day. This initiative provided vital diagnostic services and medical consultations to 65 villagers, predominantly women and children, who often face challenges in accessing quality healthcare due to their remote locations. Simultaneously, at Longa Koireng in the Kangpokpi district, an interactive health awareness session was held for residents of Longa Koireng and Thangjing Chiru. Here, the emphasis remained on preventive healthcare, focusing on personal hygiene, the consumption of potable water, and the mitigation of seasonal and vector-borne diseases.
The overarching impact of these diverse activities lies in the strengthening of the bond between the security forces and the local community. Whether through the provision of life-saving medicines in Ukhrul or the empowerment of troops with knowledge in Imphal, the Assam Rifles continues to foster a culture of health consciousness. These efforts not only provide immediate relief but also ensure long-term resilience against preventable illnesses, reflecting a profound dedication to the holistic development and security of the region.
