Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh attended the 33rd General Conference Cum Sports Meet, 2025, organized by the Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long (Southern Tangkhul Students’ Union) at Riha village, Kamjong district, today.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister expressed his admiration for the region’s scenic beauty and commended the locals for their dedication to environmental preservation. He emphasized the BJP-led government’s commitment to inclusive development, stating that no distinction is made between hills and valleys in developmental projects. “When we show respect for one another, the bond of unity will grow stronger,” he remarked.

Highlighting key achievements in Kamjong district over the past seven years, the Chief Minister announced the completion of the Mini Secretariat, which will be inaugurated soon. Other imminent inaugurations include the Ava (Ema) Market and the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS). He also mentioned plans to upgrade two higher secondary schools and the ongoing construction of school buildings in Kamjong and Kasom.
Additionally, the construction of two schools under the “School Fagathansi” initiative in Kamjong and Kasom Khullen is nearing completion, while work on the DIET Centre at Kasom Khullen is underway. The district will also benefit from the construction of 33/11 KV Sub-Stations at Nambashi and Ramphoi.
Chief Minister Biren Singh announced major new projects for the district, including the sanctioning of NH-102A (Shangshak to Tengnoupal) with an estimated cost of ₹1,300 crore. A bridge over the Maklang River has also been sanctioned, and a District Transport Office (DTO) will soon be operational in Kamjong. The government is considering transforming the village into a tourist destination by initiating various developmental projects.

Citing broader achievements in the hill districts, the Chief Minister highlighted the completion of an astroturf football ground and a sports complex gallery in Ukhrul district. Ongoing projects include the construction of an amusement park and the upgrading of Pettigrew College at an estimated cost of ₹70 crore. To address water scarcity in Ukhrul, a dam has been constructed in Shiroy Hill with a sanctioned amount of ₹6 crore.
The State government is also planning to establish a degree college in Kamjong district. Additionally, the Chief Minister assured the construction of a ₹2.5 crore gallery at Lungreiphung ground in Riha village.
