Manipur celebrates Rozgar Diwa; Minister Satyabrata calls for more reskilling to generate employment

Imphal:: A Rozgar Diwas/Skilling and Employment Workshop was held on Saturday as part of the ongoing celebration of the completion of 4 (four) years of the BJP-led Manipur government at Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Konung Mamang, here.

Speaking at the occasion as the chief guest, Labour & Employment Minister Th. Satyabrata Singh claimed that out of  20,000 youths given training and 15,000 certified, approximately 8000 youths have got placement under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. So a little above 50% of youths have been given placement. This is not a low percentage and we can conclude that our mission is successful, he added.

He also said that there is a big need for skill-training in the modern context. Even those who have already undergone training need to re-skill themselves. Skilling is very significant from nowadays perspective to generate employment, he added.

Drawing the attention of the audience, Minister Th. Satyabrata Singh also highlighted the role of skill-training programmes under PMKVY OR DDUGKY or CMST etc. in increasing scope of the employability of the youths by starting own business, setting up own industries or  trying for placement in private firms or companies even if they do not get government jobs.

Appreciating Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s idealism in bringing Manipur to its present state, he said the visual change that we can witness with the coming of the 4th anniversary of the present BJP government has not been the outcome of a single night’s work. All changes and development in the hill-valleys and law-order situation of Manipur has been possible due to the ideas, efforts, inputs and sacrifices of our present CM, he stressed. Lets work together for holistic development including skill-development or development of other areas under his dynamic leadership, he also added.

Chairman, Manipur Building Construction and Other Workers Welfare Board, Manipur, MLA Heikham Dingo Singh and Additional Chief Secretary (Labour & Employment), IAS Letkhogin Haokip also shared the dais with the Minister at the function.

MLA Heikham Dingo said that it is a happy moment that over the last 4 years, the Labour Department has been able to provide health, education and other benefits to the construction workers and other beneficiaries under the BJP Government.

Pointing out the role of the Labour & Employment Department, Letkhogin Haokip stated that it is a very important department of the state irrespective of its less function. Under the PMKVY, at present about 21,457 targets enrolled out of which 20,048 youths are trained and 16,220 youths accessed and about 15,022 certified. A total of 8025 trainees got final placement, he mentioned. He also said that for the Labour Department to work and see to the placement of the trainees, the public should make demands.

In his vote of thanks, MD,MSSD, Krishna Kumar expressed gratitude to all officials present for making the programme  a success.

A jingle on Rozgar Diwas, Skilling and Employment Workshop was telecast during the function. Certificates were also distributed to the PMKVY trainees as part of the function.

MLA T.Robindro , DCs and DLOs, youths  and students took part in the function.  

It may be mentioned that Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) implemented by the National Skill Development Corporation. The objective of this Skill Certification Scheme is to enable a large number of Indian youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood. Individuals with prior learning experience or skills will also be assessed and certified under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
