Manipur: Bishnupur district observers National Voters’ Day

District Election Officer Lourembam Bikram said that National Voters’ Day is a celebration to encourage, facilitate and maximize the enrolment of new voters

Bishnupur: The “National Voters’ Day (NVD) 2024” celebration was organised in Bishnupur under the theme “Nothing like Voting, I vote for sure”.

Speaking at the occasion, the District Election Officer Lourembam Bikram said that National Voters’ Day is a celebration to encourage, facilitate and maximize the enrolment of new voters. Highlighting the importance of a Universal Adult Franchise in a democracy, he encouraged all the voters, especially the first-time voters to fully exercise their voting rights by casting their valuable vote. 

The district magistrate added that to choose a right representative a voter must know the right candidate. He urged them to take into consideration the welfare of the state and nation as a whole while voting. 

The DEO further said that to carry out SVEEP activities like voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy at colleges and schools, twelve Campus Ambassadors have been nominated for the district.

Lauding the Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Bikram said that the BLOs’ main task is maintaining a clean electoral roll. He added that the BLOs through their sincere efforts and dedication had ensured maximum enrolment of eligible voters and identification of ASD (Absent–Shifted-Dead) electors. 

Superintendent of Police, Bishnupur, K. Meghachandra Singh called for a free, fair and peaceful election. He added that to ensure that no voters are left out mass awareness and sensitization programmes for the enrolment is a must. 

During the observance, the DEO/DC administered the National Voters’ Pledge.  The Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC) was handed to the new voters with six BLOs Yanglem Bimolata Devi 24-Nambol; Th. Anita Devi 25-Oinam AC; Laishram Dasumani Devi 27-Moirang; Laishram Pramodini Devi 28-Thanga AC and Huirem Shakhitombi Devi 29-Kumbi AC were honoured with Awards to Best BLOs. 

The National Voters’ Day celebration was attended by ADM, Hanjabam Bobby Sharma, ERO-Bishenpur Rishikanta Loitongbam, AC to DC, District Level Officials and staffs of DC, BLOs, Campus Ambassadors, students and volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra.
