Imphal: The 131st death anniversary of Pukhrambam Kajao (Phingang) was observed Wednesday at the Pukhrambam Kajao Memorial Compound, Kamong Meisnam Leikai, Imphal West.
The observation was organized by the Pukhrambam Kajao Memorial Trust. A floral tribute was also held as a part of the observation.
Speaking as Chief Guest, Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th. Satyabrata Singh said that the present generation needs to follow the footsteps of our ancestral brave heroes. Their heroic deeds and sacrifice for the future should be upheld and honored. Pukhrambam Kajao was also one of the great heroes of those days which will ever be remembered by the generations to come. We should show gratitude to our heroes who sacrificed their life for us, he added.
Speaking as president, Health & IPR Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh said that we all should be having the attitude to narrate the history of Manipur to the outsiders. There are many outsiders who are eager to know our history. The landmark renaming of Mount Harriet in Andaman and Nicobar Islands as Mount Manipur is a true example of recognizing our history and our brave heroes.
Minister maintained that the spear which was used by Pukrambam Kajao has become a historical spear and preservation and display of it is very much important. The Minister also invited suggestions and comments on how to preserve the spear in a better and beautiful way. The government will also take up necessary steps and the matter will also be consulted to the Chief Minister of Manipur, he added.
MLA, Oinam Assembly Constituency, I. Nalini Devi attended the observation as Guest of Honour. Yarou Bamdiyar Z.P. Th. Thoiba Singh, President, International Mother Association, Khuman Leima, President UMO, M. Sorojini and President All Manipur Nupi Marup, Th. Shakhi Leima also attended the occasion as special guests. Thang ta and martial arts events were also presented as a part of the observation.
