Shillong: Meghalaya police arrested a man on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in drug smuggling and seized more than one kg of heroin worth over Rs 5 crore from his possession.

Based on intelligence inputs, sleuths of the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) detected detect big consignment of 100 soap boxes containing heroin weighing 1040 grams from Albert Lalro Piang of Mizoram in the wee hours on Wednesday at the Indian Oil Petrol Pump opposite Friends Hotel and Restaurant, Lad Rymbai, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, the district police chief of East Jaintia Hills, said.

One mobile phone and cash of Rs 2,550 was also seized from his possession.

Piang is a resident of Phunchawng, Aizawl.

Dhanoa informed that a case has been registered under appropriate sections of the NDPS Act and an investigation is on to trace the forward and backward linkages.
