Paris: Europe must reduce its dependency on the United States, French President Emmanuel Macron said during his state visit to China last week.
Europe had increased its dependency on the United States for weapons and energy and must now focus on boosting European defense industries, Macron told journalists from the U.S.-based POLITICO news service and French newspaper Les Echos.
He said that strategic autonomy must be the fight of Europe.
“We don’t want to depend on others on critical issues. The day you no longer have a choice on energy, on how to defend yourself, on social networks, or on artificial intelligence, because we no longer have the basis on these subjects, you will be left out of history for a moment,” he added.
