Lepcha distributes beehives, apple plants to farmers

The programme organised by Khadi Village Kendra to distribute plants and Bee hives to increase the resilience of Himalayan Communities for managing the effects of Climate Change was also attended by Zilla Panchayat, Sonam Gyatso and officers. Local farmers were trained in basic scientific techniques of Beekeeping.

They were also informed about Bee feed, disease and pests. Sikkimese farmers have been traditionally collecting honey from the Bee hives on trees on a small scale. But now they have been provided scientific modern Bee box – low cost Clay hives in anticipation of enhanced Organic production.
