Agartala: A Kolkata lawyer served a legal notice to Tripura royal scion and TIPRA Motha Chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, accusing him of making defamatory remarks against the Bengali community in a Facebook Live recently. The notice requested an apology from him.
According to Nripendra Krishna Roy, a lawyer in the Calcutta high court, Debbarman had asked how Netaji Subhas Bose, Khudiram Bose, and Surya Sen are relevant to Tripura.
It is understandable that you do not appreciate the patriotism of Kshudiram, Surya Sen, Netaji and many more – the list is endless…You have referred to the Indian bureaucracy as if they are outsiders in the state of Tripura that is being ruled by outsiders betraying an amount of hatred and malice for India,” the notice mentioned.
The notice stated that the remarks being anti-Indian is liable to proceed under section 124 of the Indian penal code (IPC) and said, “You are requested to show cause as to why appropriate complaints shall not be made against you under sections 121, 121A and especially Sedition under section 124 of IPC. You are also requested to show cause as to why FIR shall not be lodged against you at various police stations within and out of Tripura under sections 153, 153A, 153AA and 153B.”
As of now, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman has not responded to the allegations despite multiple attempts.
