Bhopal: In the wake of a tribal youth’s death owing to alleged police harassment in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone District, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday announced the removal of the Superintendent of Police.

“A judicial inquiry has commenced into this grave matter and prior to that, some police personnel were placed under suspension. Lack of supervision is apparent therefore SP Shailendra Singh Chouhan has been removed. The probe report is awaited,” Mr Chouhan said.

Regarding the recent murder – in Neemuch District – of a tribesman who succumbed after being tied to a vehicle and dragged besides being beaten up by influential individuals, the Chief Minister assured that the government would bear the responsibility related to the upbringing of the victim’s son. Financial assistance will be extended to two brothers of the deceased.

Some days back, a tribal youngster was taken into custody in Khargone’s Bistan on suspicion of theft and later died allegedly due to assault. The main opposition Congress levelled several accusations against the police.
