Jiribam celebrates 76th Republic Day with calls for peace and unity

Jiribam: The District Administration of Jiribam marked India’s 76th Republic Day on Sunday with a grand celebration at the Jiribam Higher Secondary School Playground. Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar, IAS, inspected the Guard of Honour, unfurled the National Flag, and witnessed a combined band performance by the Manipur Fire Service and Civil Police Jiribam, which played the National Anthem. The event also saw the 10 March Past contingents, led by Parade Commander Yumnam Joyraj Singh, MPS, Deputy Commandant of the 7th IRB, take part in the ceremony.

The contingents included the 87th Bn. CRPF, Combined CRPF, 7th IRB, Jiribam Civil Police, Jiri College Boys and Girls contingents, Jiribam Higher Secondary Boys and Girls contingents, the Jiribam Forest Division tableaux, and the combined band party of Manipur Fire Service and Civil Police Jiribam.

Among those in attendance were DIG TAC CRPF Ajay Mishra, Superintendent of Police Jiribam Khamnam Robinsun Singh, MPS, CO 87th Bn. CRPF Shri Tapan Kumar, CO 7th IRB Semmi Ramror, MPS, Additional Deputy Commissioner Th Manoranjan Singh, MCS, SDO Laishram Roshan Singh, MCS, DLOs, and other senior civil and security officials.

Despite the challenges faced by Jiribam District over the past 7-8 months, a large crowd from various sections of the community attended the celebration.

In his address, Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar emphasized the need to restore the communal harmony and peaceful coexistence that the district had previously enjoyed. He called on all stakeholders to contribute positively toward this effort. He also stressed the importance of leveraging the district’s untapped potential in agriculture, horticulture, and sericulture as part of the broader vision for an Atma Nirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).

The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the District Administration’s efforts to support displaced persons, mentioning the ex-gratia provided to the families of deceased individuals and agricultural compensation to farmers unable to cultivate their land. He also noted that the District Meeyamgi Numit (People’s Day) had been reactivated to address public grievances promptly.

He expressed gratitude to the Government for awarding the Chief Minister’s Commendation Certificate to the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and Officer-in-Charge of Jiribam Police Station for their effective implementation of the Inner Line Permit System.

As part of the Republic Day celebrations, various department stalls were set up, showcasing their activities. One of the stalls featured products made by internally displaced persons (IDPs), including handicrafts and household items. The Agriculture Department distributed power sprayers to selected beneficiaries, while the Sericulture Department handed out rearing equipment. The Forest Department also distributed registration certificates for Agar cultivation.

In addition, PMAY (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana) cards were distributed by the Jiribam Municipal Council, and hearing aids and caretakers were provided under the Chief Ministergi Shotharabasingi Tengbang (CMST). Commendation certificates were awarded to officers, officials, and students for their outstanding contributions.

The celebration concluded with a friendly football match between teams led by the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, adding a lighthearted touch to the day’s events.
