JD(U) soon to be a national party: Nitish

Congratulating Lalan Singh for becoming party president for the second consecutive term Nitish Kumar expressed his confidence in Singh and said that Lalan Singh would discharge his responsibilities efficiently and effectively. Referring to the membership drive of the party, Kumar appealed to the party activists to inspire people towards JD(U).

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Saturday that JD(U) would soon be identified as a national political party.

Addressing the National Council meet of the party organised to ratify the election of Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh as party national president for the second time, Nitish Kumar said here that JD(U), a recognised political party of Bihar, has also been recognised in two other states and after its recognition in one more state, it will be identified as a national political outfit.

Referring to the membership drive of the party, Kumar appealed to the party activists to inspire people towards JD(U).

In view of the defeat of JD(U) candidate in the recently concluded by-election in Kudhni Assembly constituency, Kumar said that it does not mean that everything has ended. The chief minister, speaking about prohibition, said some people with vested interest were speaking against it but it has been executed following the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi.

He claimed that all political parties had supported the implementation of total prohibition and maintained that in the membership receipt of Congress it has been written not to drink alcohol.

Addressing the function, Lalan Singh expressed his gratitude to the leaders for conferring the responsibility of party national president upon him and assured he would live up to the expectations of the party leaders.

Singh appealed to the party leaders to cooperate in strengthening the organisation and said that the election was conducted after completing the membership drive in seven states. He further said that the membership drive would now be taken up in other states.

JD(U) State president Umesh Singh Kushwaha addressing the National Council said that the party was moving forward under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The National Council meat was attended by JD(U) parliamentary board chairman Upendra Kushwaha, party National Election Officer Anil Hegde, K C Tyagi, Vashishth Narayan Singh, Vijendra Prasad Yadav, Vijay Kumar Chaudhari and several others.
