Imphal: The Assam Rifles marked International Workers’ Day on 01 May 2026 across the Sehlon and New Samtal areas of Chandel District, bringing together a vibrant gathering of 115 local residents, including students and labourers. The celebrations at Sehlon focused on the younger generation, fostering a sense of dignity for honest toil through various creative expressions. Students participated in poem recitations and poster-making competitions, where their artwork and verses reflected personal aspirations and a deep-seated respect for the value of labour. These activities were followed by spirited cultural dance performances that showcased the rich community heritage of the region. Adding to the energetic atmosphere, a friendly football match between Sehlon Primary School and Phoilen Evergreen Primary School drew cheers from the crowd, highlighting the importance of teamwork and healthy competition.
Simultaneously, at New Samtal near the Indo-Myanmar Border, the event shifted focus to the BRTF labourers who are working tirelessly on critical border fencing projects. Recognising their relentless efforts in challenging conditions, a total of 45 personnel engaged in a heartfelt interaction with the workers. This exchange of experiences and the presentation of tokens of appreciation served to acknowledge their vital contribution to national infrastructure. In the current socio-political climate of Manipur, such initiatives are instrumental in bridging gaps, fostering mutual trust and reinforcing a sense of communal harmony between the security forces, the local youth, and the migrant workforce.
