IndiGo flight diverted to Karachi due to tech defect

New Delhi: An IndiGo aircraft flying from Sharjah to Hyderabad was diverted to Karachi in Pakistan after the pilot observed a technical defect here on Sunday.

‘IndiGo flight 6E-1406, operating from Sharjah to Hyderabad, was diverted to Karachi. The pilot observed a technical defect. Necessary procedures were followed and as a precaution, the aircraft was diverted to Karachi,’ the low-cost carrier said in a statement.

An additional flight is being sent to Karachi to fly the passengers to Hyderabad, the airlines said.

This is the second Indian airline to make an unscheduled landing in Karachi within 2 weeks.

Earlier, on July 5 a SpiceJet B737 aircraft flying from Delhi to Dubai was diverted to and landed in Karachi after an indicator light malfunctioned.

‘The aircraft landed safely at Karachi and passengers were safely disembarked. No emergency was declared and the aircraft made a normal landing,’ a statement from SpiceJet had said.

The 138 passengers later left for Dubai in a replacement flight that was sent from India.
