India reports 60,753 new COVID cases, 1,647 fatalities

Kerala reported the highest cases in the last 24 hours (11,361), followed by Maharashtra (9,798), Tamil Nadu (8,633) and Andhra Pradesh (6,341) and Karnataka (5,783).

New Delhi: India recorded 60,753 fresh infections of the novel coronavirus and 1,647 deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the overall cases to 2,86,78,390 and fatalities to 3,85,137, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday.

A total of 97,743 patients recuperated during the past 24 hours, pushing the number of recoveries to 2,86,78,390. With these new recoveries, recovery rate jumped from 96.03 to 96.16 per cent.

Meanwhile, the death toll stands at 1.29 per cent.

Now, active caseload further declined to 7,60,019, the lowest in 74 days, shows the data.

Meanwhile, weekly positivity rate is currently pegged at 3.58 per cent.

Daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.98 per cent, less than five per cent for the 12th consecutive day, the Ministry added.

So far, the country has carried out more than 27.23 crore tests.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 38,92,07,637 tests have been conducted, of which 19,02,009 were carried out in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 27,23,88,783 doses have been administered since January 16 this year, of which 33,00,085 were administered in the past 24 hours.

Kerala reported the highest cases in the last 24 hours (11,361), followed by Maharashtra (9,798), Tamil Nadu (8,633) and Andhra Pradesh (6,341) and Karnataka (5,783).

Maharashtra recorded the highest fatalities in the last 24 hours (648), followed by Tamil Nadu (287).

On Friday, the country reported 62,480 cases and 1,587 deaths.
