India, Bangladesh sign seven agreements

New Delhi: India and Bangladesh on Tuesday signed seven agreements in areas including railways, judiciary, and space technology as Prime Ministers Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi held bilateral talks at the Hyderabad House here.

The two countries have signed an MoU on the withdrawal of water from the common border river Khusiyara. The agreement will benefit the southern Assam and Sylhet regions in Bangladesh.

The two countries have also inked MoU on collaboration in IT systems such as freight operation information systems and other IT applications of Bangladesh Railways.

Another MoU has been signed on the training of Bangladesh Railway personnel in institutes of Indian Railways.

The two countries have signed an MoU on a training and capacity-building programme for Bangladesh judicial officers in India.

There is another agreement between India and Bangladesh on scientific and technological cooperation between the principal scientific and industrial research bodies of the two countries.

The two countries have also signed an agreement on cooperation in the areas of space technology.

An MoU for cooperation between Prasar Bharti of India and Bangladesh Television was inked to co-operate in the area of broadcasting.

The Bangladesh Prime Minister is on a four-day state visit to India to strengthen the multifaceted relationships between the two countries based on historical and cultural ties, mutual trust, and understanding.
