IIT-G to develop ultrasound assisted fermentation

Guwahati: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati researchers have developed an ultrasound-assisted fermentation method to produce a safe sugar substitute called ‘Xylitol’ from sugarcane biogases.

This method overcomes the operational limitations of chemical methods of synthesis and the time delays associated with conventional fermentation.

The research papers have been co-authored by Prof. Debasis Manna, Department of Chemistry, IIT Guwahati, along with his research scholars Subhasis Dey, Anjali Patel, and Biswa Mohan Prusty, among others, it added.

Anticancer activities were carried out in collaboration with Prof. Siddhartha Sankar Ghosh and Plaboni Sen from aIIT Guwahati and Prof. Arindam Bhattacharyya and Soumya Chatterjee from Calcutta University.
