Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb broke his silence almost after a week of I-PAC row last night when a local court granted bail to all 23 members of Prashant Kishore.
The unwarranted detention of young researchers has given extra mileage to the Trinamool Congress and embarrassed BJP nationwide because of the immature act of the Tripura government.
Justifying the police action on Prashant Kishore’s team Deb argued police will do their duty – neither the government will intervene nor should any other interrupt and said, “Tripura is a bordering state and Independence Day is coming nearer as well as Covid restrictions are in place that naturally keeps police on high alert. They had gone for routine check-up in the hotel based on information about a large number of people roaming around the state staying here.”
The movement of any unidentified groups can pose a threat to the law and order situation. Even in our villages, if someone unidentified is seen, people inquire after his or her identity. Here the case is similar, Deb said.
He reminded that Tripura has the tradition of welcoming the guests coming from outside for any purpose with the philosophy of “Atithi Devo Bhava”. “And in the case of the I-PAC team, the ministers, MPs and other leaders of Trinamool congress have no difference for us.
But, I don’t want to recall what they did or said in West Bengal. The vindictive politics of Trinamool Congress I faced during the Bengal campaigning trail,” Chief Minister stated.
The people in Tripura have the mentality of treating guests as God and the government also functions in this direction. We are Indians and whoever comes to Tripura will be treated with same gesture, he said adding, “I did not speak a single word on the attacks on his convoy when I was campaigning for BJP in Bengal but maintained the culture of the people believe in the principle of “Atithi Devo Bhava.”
“Whatever has happened to me, I don’t want to speak about this. Something that has happened should be accepted. I respect her (Mamata) like a senior in politics and whoever is coming to our state, I welcome them and our treatment shall remain the same for all”, said Deb when asked about Trinamool’s political overtures on I-PAC issue.
