Shillong: Meghalaya police arrested two drug traffickers and seized 120 grams of heroin worth Rs 75 lakhs from their possession, a police official said on Wednesday.
Based on a tip-off, police detained two drug traffickers – Shanborlang Khongwir (30) and Bandapkupar Mawlong – who were riding on a motorcycle at Byrnihat in Ri-Bhoi district on Tuesday night.
During the body search, police recovered 10 soap boxes of heroin weighing 120 grams from their backpack of Mawlong, Giri Prasad, the district police chief of Ri-Bhoi, said, adding that three smartphones were also seized and a KTM Duke bike bearing registration number ML05 R 4704 were also seized from their possession.
Police have registered a case under the NDPS Act and an investigation was on.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has congratulated Ri Bhoi police on the success of the operation and said “@RibhoiPolice dealt a timely blow to an interstate drug trafficking gang by arresting 2 key members, seizing 10 pkts. of heroin worth ₹75 Lakhs, confiscating 1 motorbike worth ₹3.2 Lakh & 2 smartphones. Inv is on to nab other members. Keep it up @MeghalayaPolice (sic).”
