Agartala: With the satisfactory performance of Tripura in the mission of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide adequate safe drinking water to each and every household, the Ministry of Jal Shakti has released an installment of a grant of Rs 166.74 crore for the state on Wednesday, said Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister of Tripura Sushanta Chowdhury.

Appreciating the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekwat towards Tripura, Chowdhury said that the state government is committed to ensuring the supply of safe drinking water through a pipeline to 7.5 lakhs rural households by this year.

“In urban areas, there are several initiatives and projects for safe drinking water and sanitation but in rural Tripura, Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) is the only project of Prime Minister where Tripura demonstrated an exemplary performance by providing connection to over 3.90 lakh rural households,” Chowdhury stated.

He pointed out that around 3500 households have been given free water connections this month so far including the highest number in the aspirational district Dhalai followed by North Tripura and West Tripura.

“In our state uncared roadside or colony-based water points are almost zero. The consistent efforts of our government in the last four and half years in coordination with the various segments of the society’s misuse of potable water and tendency of polluting water bodies, streams, and sources have reduced substantially, which in turn helps to get access to safe and adequate drinking water,” Chowdhury added.
