Vadodara: Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani Sunday evening collapsed while addressing a public gathering at Mehsananagar crossroads in Nizampura area of Vadodara, the TOI reported.

Rupani, who was visibly unwell, was in Vadodara to address three public gatherings ahead of the civic body polls scheduled for February 21.

After Tarsali and Karelibaug , he was addressing the third gathering in Nizampura area of the city.

Rupani collapsed while delivering his speech. A body guard who was standing close behind unsuccessfully tried to hold him. The CM collapsed even as BJP leaders who were on the dais rushed to help.

He regained composure a few minutes later. However he did not continue with his speech. He did not seem to be in any discomfort as he descended the stairs and walked away from the venue.

Sources said he was being taken to Gandhinagar.

“During the election campaign in Vadodara, the chief minister fell down due to dizziness. However I just inquired he is fine now. It may have happened due to exhaustion. Doctors are examining him at Vadodara airport before he leaves for Gandhinagar. There is nothing to worry as such,” said deputy CM Nitin Patel.
