Guwahati: Stating that the conditions are not ideal for holding state board examinations of class 10 and 12, the Assam government today said that the final decision on it will be taken by the state education department on June 18.
Sharing the decision of the State Cabinet, chief minister Sarma tweeted that a final decision regarding the Higher Secondary Leaving Certificate (HSLC) & Assam High Madrassa (AHM) Examinations and the Higher Secondary final examinations will be taken on June 18.
The meeting on Friday will be held between the education department and various other stakeholders including students’ organisations in the state.
After the Cabinet meeting, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta told the media: “It is not possible to conduct the HSLC and HS examinations due to the prevailing Covid19 situation.”
“The Assam Cabinet recommended that following the normal modalities of conducting the examinations or in the same system, which has been followed traditionally since long, the examinations now cannot be conducted amid Covid19 pandemic,” health minister Mahanta said.
Meanwhile, a section of students from Assam has filed a petition in the Supreme Court with an appeal to cancel the HSLC and HS examinations due to the Covid19 pandemic.
