Governor Ganesan, CM Biren extend Gaan Ngai greetings

In his message the governor said that Gaan Ngai is the Festival of Winter season for paying obeisance and homage to those departed souls who left this temporal world in the year before.

Imphal: Governor nof Manipur La Ganesan extended greetings to the people of Manipur, especially to the Zelaingrong community on the joyous and auspicious occasion of Gaan Ngai.

In his message the governor said that Gaan Ngai is the Festival of Winter season for paying obeisance and homage to those departed souls who left this temporal world in the year before. The festival also symbolizes bidding adieu to the old year and heralding the New Year, full of hope and aspirations.

“One posistive development over the years is that the festival along with its religious fervor has become a major cultural event of not only the Zelaingrong community but also other communities”, Governor Ganesan added.

Concluding his message he called on all to celebrate Gaan Ngai in the spirit of friendship and brotherhood with traditional gaiety and deveotion to ring in the New Year for a peaceful and prosperous Manipur.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh also greeted the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of Gaan Ngai.

In  his message Biren Singh said that Gaan Nagi is the biggest cultural and religious post harvest festival of the Zeliangrong community. The festival marks the end of the old year and the beginning of the new year.

“During the festival, the community offers thanksgiving to Tingkao Ragwan for good harvest and prays for the well-being of the New Year”.

Joining the people of the state in celebrating the festival, Chief Minister Biren said, “May the festival bring happiness, prosperity, spread the message of unity, love, peace and brotherhood to all the communities in the state”.
