Government is prepared to combat Covid-19: Valte

Imphal: While visiting the construction site for oxygen plant at Churachandpur district hospital, Minister of TA & H Vungzagin Valte,   who is also incharge of Churachandpur and Pherzawl district, said that the government is prepared and ready to combat the COVID pandemic.

The district has been fighting the second wave of Coronavirus which hit the district hard. Apart from curfew, declaration of containment zones, vaccinations, the government conducted awareness campaigns and spray Sodium Hypochlorite solution to the most vulnerable areas with the help of fire brigades.

At present, there are 290 covid positive patients in the district at different isolation centres. There are 21 patients in the COVID -19 Dedicated Ward in the district hospital. Dr. VC Pau, CMO of the district said that the government has constructed Covid Care Centre at Lanva TD Block and Churachandpur Government College. More centres will be constructed at GNM School of Nursing and Gandhi Memorial High School, he added. Apart from Covid Care Centres, the district also has Community Home Isolation Centres for each Assembly Constituency segments.

The District Hospital, Churachandpur has 44 D type oxygen, 23 B type and 13 oxygen concentrators. “With the increase of the infection, Covid -19 Dedicated Ward will be increased to 15 beds as the existing 20 beds is not enough” the Medical Superintendent Dr. Vanlalkungi said. She also asked for more 20 D type oxygen to the concerned authorities to meet the requirement. The CEO/ADCC has been transporting the required oxygen from Imphal as of now.

After completion, the oxygen plant will produce 200 litres of liquid oxygen per minutes. This plant will ensure a sustained supply of oxygen for all oxygenated and ICU beds.

With the sudden surge of infection in the district, Minister V Valte asked the district administration to conduct random testing of Covid-19 of  auto-rickshaw drivers, bus drivers, taxi drivers and vegetable vendors at bazaars to contain the fast outbreak of the virus. ‘They can be super spreaders of the virus, he added. He has asked the district administration to submit the action plan and action taken report for the same.

Expressing his gratitude towards doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and healthcare professionals, who are relentlessly working to save innumerable lives amid the surmounting cases of Covid-19 being reported, Minister V Valte said “serving people during such a crisis is worthy of special recognition”.
