Ranchi: Former BJP MLA Sadhu Charan Mahto passed away following a prolonged illness at a private hospital in Kolkata on Tuesday.
He was battling throat cancer and kidney-related ailments for the last year. He was 48.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Ravindra Nath Mahto, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda, State BJP President Deepak Prakash, Leader of the legislature wing Babulal Marandi, former Chief Minister Raghubar Das have all expressed their grief over the passing of the former MLA.
In the Assembly Elections of 2014, Sadhu Charan Mahto had defeated Savita Mahto of the JMM by a margin of 42,250 votes while in the 2019 Assembly elections Savita Mahto emerged victorious.

Jamshedpur MP Vidyut Baran Mahto said that his body will be brought to his ancestral place and the last rites will be performed at Parvati Ghat at Jamshedpur.
