Imphal: First case of Omicron variant of Covid-19 has been reported from Manipur where a 48-year-old, who recently travelled to Tanzania, was tested positive.
He was tested positive on December 21 along with three other foreign returnees.
IBSD Takyelpat, Imphal after genome sequencing confirmed that he was having Omicron Covid variant. Three of his family members were also COVID positive but a genome sequencing report was awaited.
The other three persons who were COVID positive after returning from abroad were free from the Omicron variant.
State Health Director, K Rajo said the person had been kept in isolation at JNIMS.
Rajo has appealed to all to strictly follow safety measures.
