California/Kyiv: Space X CEO Elon Musk has activated his company’s Starlink satellite broadband service in Ukraine after a request by Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov to help his country in providing with stations.

On Saturday, Fedorov tweeted, “Elon Musk, while you try to colonize Mars — Russia try to occupy Ukraine! While your rockets successfully land from space — Russian rockets attack Ukrainian civil people! We ask you to provide Ukraine with Starlink stations.”

In reply, Musk said, “Starlink service is now active in Ukraine. More terminals en route.”

According to Politico, Musk’s SpaceX has thousands of Starlink satellites in orbit that allows the company to beam broadband services around Earth without the need for fiber-optic cables. This will keep Ukraine online in case its internet infrastructure is damaged by Russia’s attacks.

The Minister also urged the Space X CEO to “address sane Russians to stand” against the ongoing attacks in Ukraine.
