Drug worth Rs 17.2 crore seized in Manipur border

Imphal: Manipur Police and Assam Rifles personnel seized drugs worth about Rs 17.20 cr on Tuesday near the Friendship gate, Moreh, Tengnoupal district. 

Assam Rifles officials said troops of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police launched an operation near Friendship Bridge, Moreh. 

The suspicious movement of two persons from Myanmar to India near Border Pillar 77 was observed. On being challenged, both individuals dropped their sacks and fled towards Myanmar territory. 

While the sacks were searched 8.60 kilograms brown sugar of worth Rs 17.20 Crore was recovered.

The recovered items were handed over to Moreh Police for further investigation.
