New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said neither Maharashtra nor Karnataka will stake any claim or make any demand until the Supreme Court announces its verdict on the inter-state border dispute.

This statement was made after he held a meeting with chief ministers of Maharashtra and Karnataka amid the ongoing border row between the neighbouring states.

Speaking to reporters, Shah said the deliberation was held in a cordial atmosphere and both chief ministers agreed to resolve the border issue by treading the constitutional path.

He also announced the setting up of a six-member committee headed by a senior IPS officer for ensuring law and order in both the states.

During the deliberation, Shah said it came to the notice of the participants that some fake Twitter handles generated by prominent leaders spread fake news with an intention to provoke people of both the states and aggravating the situation.

“It has been decided that FIRs will be registered in such cases, and people responsible for this will be exposed,” he stated.

The inter-state border controversy escalated into violence last week after vehicles from both states were attacked and defaced in Belagavi and Pune, respectively.

With the issue generating heated political debate in Maharashtra, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis called Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai, expressing his displeasure.
