Kohima: With extortion cases on the rise in Dimapur district of Nagaland, a business chamber on Sunday expressed dismay over ‘forceful fund or donation drive’ by multiple unions and organisations.
According to a press release issued by the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), despite repeated requests to every organisation to refrain from such activities that caused “extreme harassment” to the business community, such cases were rising.
The DCCI iterated that the traders in Dimapur would not entertain such “activities” without the permission of the district administration and the knowledge and approval of the trade body.
At present, all shops and business houses in Dimapur are flooded with demands by 40 to 50 unions and organisations to buy their calendars, souvenirs or contribute money towards their silver jubilee, golden jubilee or conferences.
The DCCI stated that the business community had never shied away from contributing towards genuine causes and events.
