Cricket : 4 Nashik women in Maharashtra women’s team

Maya Sonwane is a good spinner and due to her consistent performance, Maya was selected in the India A team for the prestigious Challenger Trophy in two consecutive seasons and has been a member of the senior women's team for several years.

Nashik: Nashik women Cricketer Maya Sonawane, Iswari Sawkar, Rasika Shinde and Shalmali Kshatriya of Nashik District Cricket Association have been selected in the senior women’s Maharashtra cricket team. The four will represent the Maharashtra Senior Women’s team in the Senior Women’s ODI Tournament organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, BCCI at Guwahati.

Maya Sonwane, Ishwari Savkar and Rasika Shinde have previously represented Maharashtra women’s cricket team in senior and under nineteen as well as various age groups. Shalmali Kshatriya represented the under-19 women’s team this year.

Rasika Shinde is a fast bowler and a keen batsman while Shalmali Kshatriya is an emerging fast bowler and opener. Ishwari Sawkar has been selected as the captain of the Under-19 Maharashtra team this year. And under her leadership, the Maharashtra team was successful in reaching the semi-finals in the under-19 women’s one-day tournament.

This selection has been made considering the consistent and significant performance of these players in the state level and national competitions held from time to time in the previous and this season. Training camps for girls and women cricketers are conducted throughout the year at Hutatma Anant Kanhere Maidan through Nashik District Cricket Association. All the players benefit from good guidance.

Organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India – BCCI in Guwahati, the Senior Women’s ODI Tournament, Maharashtra matches will be as follows: January 18 – Himachal Pradesh, January 21 – Vidarbha, January 23 – Hyderabad, January 25 – Goa, January 27 – Bihar and 29 January – Uttarakhand.
