Imphal: Covid vaccination was carried out by the Bijoy Govind, where a temporary PHC was established for the people of Sagolband and surrounding areas on Friday.
Around 150 people were vaccinated on the first day and around 1000 people registered themselves for vaccination. The drive is scheduled to go on for about five days but may be extended as per requirement.
Members of the Sagolband Constituency Progressive Committee (SCPC) helped out the vaccination drive in various ways right from helping out in registration to making sure that SOP is strictly followed during the vaccination. Besides the medical staff carrying out the vaccination the temporary PHC at Bijoy Govind also has two ambulances and two beds with oxygen on standby, R k Temba, a member of the SCPC informed NEA.
RK Imo who represents the Sagolband constituency talking to NEA said that vaccination is the only way to overcome this pandemic. “People did lack confidence during the initial phase of vaccination, however, with the right kind of advice and guidance, a lot more have come forward to vaccinate themselves especially during this second wave of Covid”, he added.
“As the representative of Sagolband, it became important for me to facilitate and help the people to get them vaccinated”. Stating that Sagolband being an urban area, there is no PHC/UHC so people have to go to other areas like Kwakeithel, Khumbong to get themselves vaccinated. Keeping this in mind, the MLA held thorough deliberation and discussion with the Health Department as a result of which this temporary PHC was opened at Bijoy Govinda.
Stating that the aim is to vaccinate most eligible persons from Sagolband and nearby areas, RK Imo said, “we will be able to cover quite a large portion of the population from Sagolband in the next few days, which in turn will help curb the spread of Covid. Our measures will also help the state government in vaccinating the people across the state”.
