Covid: Manipur govt extends ‘curfew’ in seven districts till May 28

Imphal: The Manipur government has extended the currently imposed ‘curfew’ in seven districts of the state to contain Covid-19 cases till May 28. The decision was taken in view of the unabated rise of Covid cases across the state, officials said.

The seven districts which are under curfew are Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thubal, Kakching, Churachandpur and Ukhrul.

The residents of nine remaining districts with no curfew are not allowed to travel to the seven districts where curfew has been imposed and vice versa, a statement issued by state Home department said.

It further said that while the permissible activities are allowed and previous orders remained the same, there are certain changes in guidelines in view the hardship and problems faced by the general public.  Now, vegetable vendors and grocery shops are allowed to open from 7 am to 10 am for purchase by the locals on 20th May, 2021, 23rd May 2021 and 26th May 2021.

If the shops or vendors are located in congested rows (on major roads like NH both sides may open), then only alternate rows shall be allowed to open. Queue system should be adopted by all shops and vendors. In Strict ban on vehicular movement continues even during 7 am to 10 am.

Three Ima Keithels, its adjoining markets and the local markets at Khurai Lamlong, Andro Parking, Lambulane, Kongba, Pishum Thong, Kwakeithel, Nagamapal, SingJarnei Bazaar, Wahengbam Leikai and major other major markets in other districts shall remain closed, it further said.
