COVID: 16 dead, 448 new cases in Meghalaya

Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said the new COVID-19 fatalities recorded in the past 24 hours includes nine in East Khasi Hills district, five in West Jaintia Hills district and one each in West Garo Hills district and North Garo Hills district.

Shillong: Sixteen more COVID-related deaths raised the fatality figure to 694 and 448 fresh cases of infection added up to 4849 active cases, while 507 recoveries surged the number of recovered cases to 34, 440 in Meghalaya on Wednesday, with the state having registered 39, 983 confirmed cases till date.

Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said the new COVID-19 fatalities recorded in the past 24 hours includes nine in East Khasi Hills district, five in West Jaintia Hills district and one each in West Garo Hills district and North Garo Hills district.

He said the numbers of fresh cases of COVID-19 infection were 152 in East Khasi Hills district, 69 in West Garo Hills district, 40 in North Garo Hills district, 36 in South West Garo Hills district, 31 in Ri-Bhoi district, 27 in South West Khasi Hills district, 25 in West Khasi Hills district, 17 in West Jaintia Hills district, 15 in South Garo Hills district and nine in East Garo Hills district.

Meanwhile, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the most affected East Khasi Hills district, that includes state capital Shillong, has come down to 1876, while the number of active cases in West Garo Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district also declined to 673 and 623 respectively, even as the numbers of positive cases in the other eight districts were less than 500 each.

The East Khasi Hills district also accounted for the maximum number of recoveries from the viral infection at 261, with Ri-Bhoi district following with 91 recoveries as per the latest official count.
