CORONA touches lives of 1833 more,67 die in single day in Odisha

For the fifth consecutive day, the daily covid load in the state remained below 2000 as 1062 new cases were reported from the quarantine centres and 771 as local contact cases from all the 30 districts in the past 24 hours.

Bhubaneswar: The covid tally in Odisha Sunday surged to 9,67,548 with fresh 1833 infections and the toll rose to 5512 with 67 more people succumbing to the virus in the past 24 hours.

For the fifth consecutive day, the daily covid load in the state remained below 2000 as 1062 new cases were reported from the quarantine centres and 771 as local contact cases from all the 30 districts in the past 24 hours.

Atleast five districts- Khordha,Cuttack,Balasore, Jajpur and Puri districts have reported more than hundred cases and together accounted for over 60 percent of the total positive cases in the state.

Khordha recorded the highest number of 490 new infections in the past 24 hours followed by Cuttack(243), Puri ( 139),Balasore(129) and Jajpur ( 110).

Out of 67 fatalities reported in the state in the past 24 hours ,Khordha district alone registered 24 deaths followed by ten each in Angul and Keonjhar, six in Subarnapur and five in Puri district.

For the first time after almost a gap of over 100 days all the 30 districts in the state reported test positivity rate(TPR) below 5 per cent.

However, the TPR of the state Sunday marginally shut up to 2.58 percent after remaining 2.4 percent for the last few days.

Cuttack district in coastal Odisha registered the highest TPR of 4.8 percent while Nabarangpur in Southern Odisha reported the lowest TPR of 0.1 percent.As many as ten districts in the state have TPR less than one per cent.

The active cases in the state further reduced to 18,914. Khordha district has the highest active cases of 4672 followed by Cuttack ( 2524),Balasore(1384) and Jajpur ( 1287).

These four coastal Odisha districts together accounted for 9867 active cases, registering over 52 percent of the total active cases in the state.

Sources said 1865 more people were recovered in the state on Saturday taking the total recoveries in the state to 9,43,069.
