Containment measures to continue as COVID-19 count mounts in Meghalaya

Shillong: Containment measures would continue in the East Khasi Hills, including Meghalaya capital Shillong with rising in the daily COVID-19 count and the positivity rate recorded at over 10 per cent, the district administration said on Saturday.
“It is observed that the number of COVID-19 cases in the district is still very high and that the positivity rate is above 10 percent,” Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo said, adding that in order to safeguard the district from an “uncontrollable surge in COVID-19 cases”, night curfew will be promulgated from 7 pm to 5 am daily.
“Political, public, social and religious gatherings including conferences, meetings and training, weddings and sporting activities are not permitted. Inter-district movement as well as movement to and from Shillong Urban Agglomeration is not permitted without valid passes except for restricted public transportation,” the order said.
“Private vehicles plying without passes will be liable for strict penalties. Public Transport in East Khasi Hills will be permitted at 20 per cent for urban and 30 per cent for rural areas,” she iterated, adding that vaccination status of the driver should be clearly indicated on the vehicle.

“Hawkers and vendors will be regulated and sit only in spaces earmarked by the Incident Commander,Zone-III (Sadar PS) and as per arrangement and regulation made. They shall clearly indicate their vaccination status,” the order read.
Central Government offices and State Government offices are permitted to function at 30 percent strength and all banks and post offices are permitted to open with limited staff. Private offices are permitted to open thrice a week for emergent works, with due permission from the office of the deputy commissioner, the order said, adding that educational institutions required to open for emergent official works only may apply to the office and permission will be granted on a case-to-case basis.
“Number of cases will be under close watch for the next one week and in the event there is no respite or any upward trend in cases, more restrictions will be enforced,” the district magistrate said.
