Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that Congress supports those who want to defame the famous Assam tea.
Addressing an election rally at Chabua in Upper Assam, Modi said that he was pained to see that the grand old party, which ruled the country for 50-55 years, supports those who want to ruin the reputation of India’s tea.
He further said that if a ‘chaiwala’ doesn’t understand your problems, who will.
Modi was referring to Swedish environmentalist Greta Thunberg’s controversial toolkit which contained several ways to participate in the farmers’ protest.
One of the points reportedly mentioned there was to “disrupt yoga and chai image of India in general”.
PM Narendra Modi blames Congress’ corruption for making Assam one of the ‘most disconnected states in India’
“Congress governments and their policies damaged Assam socially, culturally, geographically and politically,” PM said.
Making an appeal to the voters of the northeastern state, Modi said that on one side, BJP has a policy, leadership and good intentions.
“While on the other side, Congress neither has a leader nor policy or ideology,” he said. He alleged that Congress has become so weak that it can go to any extent and join hands with anyone.
Elections for the 126-seater Assembly in Assam will be held between March 27 and April 6. Votes will be counted on May 2.
