Congress chief targets govt over quality control of Trans-Asian highway in Manipur

Imphal: Congress president K. Meghachandra, MLA, Monday visited the site where the retaining wall of the ongoing construction of Trans-Asian Highway collapsed at Waithou under Thoubal district in Manipur.

After reaching the site, the Congress chief expressed shock and conveyed serious concern about the quality control of the ongoing Trans-Asian Highway in Manipur. 

He stated that the ongoing construction of the highway from Imphal to Myanmar needs to be checked along with retesting the quality of the materials being used, such as stones, sand, cement, iron bars, etc.

There is a need to relook at the technical inputs on the construction by the State Government and Central Government. He termed the collapse of the newly constructed retaining wall at Waithou as “very unfortunate”.
