Guwahati: Assam’s Congress unit has asked Shiv Sena rebel leader Eknath Shinde and other MLAs from Maharashtra to leave the state immediately.
Bhupen Kumar Bora, President of the Pradesh Congress Committee, wrote a letter to Shinde, who is camping in Assam with his rebel supporters, saying his presence in Guwahati was creating “an unhealthy atmosphere”.
Shinde and other Maharashtra MLAs are staying in Radisson Blu Hotel here in a bid to topple the government of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. They reached Assam via Surat, Gujarat.
Bora’s letter, sent to Shinde through a policeman at the hotel, said Assam “has been defamed by your presence, considering Guwahati as a safe haven for MLAs who have no respect for constitutional values and loyalty”.
