Imphal: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today officially launched the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign and the Clean Himalayan Hill Cities Initiative (CHHCI), Manipur, at CM Secretariat, Imphal.
The SHS 2026 campaign, being observed from September 17 to October 2 under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat,” will focus on five key pillars—Transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and Clean Public Places; Swachh Paathshala–Yuva for Swachhata; Safai Mitra Suraksha Evam Samman Shivir; Jan Bhagidari for Swachhata; and Swachhata Se Samriddhi. The campaign will promote cleanliness, four-way source segregation, awareness on the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, citizen and youth participation, Safai Mitra welfare and waste-to-wealth initiatives.
The Chief Minister appealed to all citizens, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and stakeholders to actively participate in the campaign and collectively maintain cleanliness in their respective areas. He stressed the importance of proper waste management and making cleanliness a sustained practice.
As part of the campaign, Swachh Paathshala and youth awareness activities, cleanliness drives at public places, Sports for Swachhata and Safai Mitra Suraksha Evam Samman Shivir will be organised. The State will also participate in the nationwide “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” Shramdaan on October 1.
The 100-day CHHCI, under SBM(U) 2.0, will focus on capacity building, Behaviour Change Communication (BCC), preservation of heritage and iconic sites, improved cleanliness and sanitation, and strengthening waste-management practices. Six sites identified are Ima Keithel, Kangla Fort, Cheirao Ching, Marjing Polo Statue, Loktak Lake and Andro Santhei Natural Park.
The initiatives aim to promote cleaner public spaces, improved waste management, greater citizen participation and sustainable cleanliness across Manipur.
Hungyo Worshang, Secretary, PHED, Somorjit Salam, Secretary, MAHUD, IT and Relief & Disaster Management, officials among others attended the programme.
