Shillong: Two chief ministers of the Northeast have stressed incorporating the history, traditions and culture of the region in the national education curriculum.
The NE chief ministers talked about this while addressing the NITI Aayog’s sixth Governing Council meeting on a virtual platform, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.
Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma said there is a need to include more information on the culture and history of the northeastern region in the national syllabus of various classes.
“If this is done it would help to promote national integration,” Sangma said.
Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu said that the Centre must include Northeast history and culture in the national curriculum of various stages.
Mr Khandu justified that with this, apart from awareness of the rich culture and history of the northeastern states at the national level, it would reinforce national integration in the true spirit of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”.
