Imphal: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday attended the closing ceremony of the 34th Manipur State Taekwondo Championship 2026 at the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium, Imphal.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted that sports not only strengthen the body but also foster mental resilience and discipline. He said that regular practice of martial arts cultivates positive habits such as waking up early, effective time management, and self-control. It also enhances endurance and concentration, which are valuable in daily life. He added that the discipline learned through martial arts instills qualities like honesty, responsibility, and perseverance.
Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh stressed the importance of parents and guardians encouraging discipline in children from an early age to help them excel in both sports and life. He called upon authorities to ensure a transparent and unbiased selection process, stating that fairness and merit-based opportunities are crucial for nurturing talent and producing world-class athletes from the state.
The four-day championship, which saw participation from 32 teams, reflected the widespread enthusiasm and competitive spirit for Taekwondo across Manipur.
