Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressed the need for all the indigenous communities residing in the State to live together peacefully, with understanding amongst one another. He urged all to “remember how our forefathers safeguarded our motherland together from external forces”.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the inaugural program of the Diamond Jubilee cum VIIIth Biennial Sports Meet, 2025 of the All Maring Sports Association (AMSA) held at the AMSA Sports Complex, Laiching Kangshang Village, Machi Sub-Division, Tengnoupal District on Monday. The event was organized under the theme “Legacy of Yesterday, Champion of Tomorrow”.
N. Biren Singh further stated that different indigenous communities had been living together, safeguarding the land since time immemorial. He recalled that the poison put on the tip of the Arambai weapon, used while driving out the Burmese (Awa) during the Seven Years Devastation Period, were provided by the Maring community according to folktales, he added.
He mentioned that many youths of Manipur, frustrated due to unemployment, are getting attracted towards drugs. As such, the War on Drugs Campaign was started to save the youths, who are foundations of the future generations, he said. The Chief Minister appreciated the people of the Laiching Kangshang Village for growing certain vegetables, refraining themselves from poppy cultivation.
Referring to the memorandum submitted to him, the Chief Minister announced constructing a sports complex with Indoor Gym at the function venue with an estimated cost of around Rs. 2.5 crore and added that the fund would be allocated in the next budget. He further informed that the Government would consider opening a branch of the Employment Exchange office at Machi Sub-Division.
N. Biren also assured to black topped the approach road to Laiching Kangshang Village from Pallel and further informed that a women’s market would be constructed in the village. Regarding the demand for setting up a power sub-station and opening up of a Primary Health Sub-Centre, he informed that he would study and look into it.
Speaking on the current unprecedented crisis, the Chief Minister maintained that the State Government is not against any community. He added that the Government is concerned about illegal migrants and mushrooming of many unrecognised villages in border areas.
He further stressed the need for major communities to support minorities in their living, for overall development of the State. He appealed to the public to work together in restoring peace and normalcy and to take the State towards a faster pace of development.
Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai, praised the courage and bravery of the Maring community. He also mentioned the interest shown by the youth of the Maring community in games and sports and aexpressed the need to groom talented youths to make them successful sportsmen.
The Minister appreciated the Chief Minister’s initiative to bring governance at the doorstep through the Go to Hills and Go to Village Missions. He also mentioned the significance of holding Meeyamgi Numit, an initiative of N. Biren Singh, to attend to the grievances of the public. He continued that the State had witnessed development in various sectors including health, education and other infrastructure development among others. He sought cooperation of the public in the Government’s effort to restore peace in the State.
During the program, N. Biren Singh released a diamond jubilee souvenir of the All Maring Sports Association (AMSA). He also unveiled a monolith at the premise of the AMSA Sports Complex.

Sushindro Meitei; MLA Kakching AC, Mayanglambam Rameshwar; Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Tengnoupal District, senior government officials and village chiefs and people of Laiching Kangshang Village also attended the program, among others.
