Child bravery awardee from Thane returns award under protest

Awardee Hali Raghunath Baraf of Rath Andale Pada of Shahapur has had saved her sister from the clutches of a tiger in the year 2012 by fighting the big cat in the jungle.

Thane: A child bravery award winner from Shahapur taluka of the district has returned her award to the government in protest of its indifferent attitude towards the tribals.

Awardee Hali Raghunath Baraf of Rath Andale Pada of Shahapur has had saved her sister from the clutches of a tiger in the year 2012 by fighting the big cat in the jungle.

As a recognition of her bravery, she was awarded Child Bravery award by the central government in 2013. Also, she and her family were promised extra facilities by the government.

However, since her family details were not linked to the central PDS system till date, they were not getting ration despite several reminders.

As a protest against the indifferent attitude of the government towards the tribals, she returned the award to the SDO Bhiwandi.

She said that around 400 families in the taluka are still deprived of their ration as their details were not linked to the online system and the government should make efforts and ensure that they get their ration, she added.
