Lucknow: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel sat on a dharna inside Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport here on Tuesday as he was restrained from exiting the airport.
Baghel, who is Congress election in charge of UP as well, reached Lucknow airport at around 12:45 pm but the security personnel did not allow him to exit.
Two senior Congress leaders Pramod Tiwari and PL Punia, who had come to receive the Chhattisgarh CM, were not allowed to go inside the airport, party sources here told UNI.
In a video statement, Baghel clarified that he was scheduled to meet Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at Sitapur and other party leaders in Lucknow.
“I had no plan to visit Lakhimpur Kheri but the UP government stopped me from exiting the airport, which is an undemocratic and dictatorial attitude,’ he said.
The Chhattisgarh CM was slated to address a press conference at the state Congress headquarters at 14:30 pm.
As per previous plans, he was scheduled to visit Lucknow on Monday, but the state government had directed the airport authorities not to allow his aircraft to land.
