Guwahati: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Thursday said the Centre has approved the construction of a 3 km long 4-lane bridge on Brahmaputra river in Kamrup district at an estimated cost of Rs 3094 crores.
Finance Minister added that the bridge will facilitate direct connectivity to the internationally renowned silk town of Sualkuchi and the industrial region of Amingaon with Guwahati and the International airport.
Sitharaman also said that the project will also help in riverbank erosion and bring about improving transportation efficiency towards the economic development of the state.
Sitharaman made this announcement while launching the RTPS(Right to Public services) Portal in Guwahati. The Finance Minister also inaugurated the Excise and tax portal of the Government of Assam, which is funded by the World Bank.
She also laid the foundation stone of upgradation work of a 90 km road from Haflong Tinali to Lower Haflong, under Road Network Improvement Project (ARNIP). It will improve road infrastructure in Dima Hasao’s Haflong, Umrongso and other regions.
Around Rs 900 crore will be spent on building roads in Dima Hasao. Also, Rs 250 crore will be spent for construction of the Umrongso-Lanka road within nine months.
She also attended the groundbreaking ceremony of that 120 MW Lower Kopili Hydro Electric Project at Longku, Dima Hasao.
In December 2020, the Government of India signed a $231 million ADB loan to boost electricity generation capacity in Assam through construction of a 120 megawatt (MW) hydroelectric power plant that will enhance availability of electricity for households.
