Imphal: The Chandel Battalion on Saturday seized Burmese teak wood worth Rs 1.68 crore in Bongmol, Machi Sub Division and nabbed four persons.

Assam Rifles officials said a team was deployed for routine checking of routes connecting the Indo-Myanmar Border to thwart smuggling of contraband items into Chandel and Tengnoupal districts.

The troops intercepted three TATA trucks. When the checked the trucks, Burmese teak wood worth Rs 1.68 crore was recovered.

The seized wood along with the apprehended smugglers and vehicles were handed over to District Forest Officer, Tengnoupal for further legal action.
