BSF trooper dies in elephant attack in Meghalaya

The deceased trooper identified as Vijay Kumar was posted within an elephant corridor along the India-Bangladesh border.

Shillong: A Head Constable of the Border Security Force (BSF) 181 battalion BSF died after he was attacked by a herd of wild elephants in Meghalaya’s South Garo Hills district on Wednesday, an official said.

The deceased trooper identified as Vijay Kumar was posted within an elephant corridor along the India-Bangladesh border.

The fatal incident took place when two BSF troopers travelling on a two-wheeler between Rasnagre and Nilwagre along the international border were attacked by a herd of elephants.

Kumar was rushed to Sibbari PHC but succumbed to his injuries

South Garo Hills district falls under the famed ‘elephant corridor with the elephants known to juggle between the borders of Bangladesh and India in herds.
