Shillong: Troopers of the Border Security Force on Tuesday confiscated skin cream, herbal mehndi and tea waste worth more than Rupees 45 lakh at Gaobari on the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya.
BSF Spokesperson U.K. Nayal said the items were meant for smuggling through border area of Gaobari village under Rongara Police Station in South Garo Hills district
“The area being unfenced is vulnerable for smuggling and facilitate trans-border movement of smugglers and carriers,” he said.
Sensing imminent apprehension by special party of BSF, smugglers threw their headloads and managed to run taking advantage of darkness.
The seized items were handed over to the Customs Department for further disposal.
Nayal said that BSF troops are vigilant and active against any anti-national activity through the International Border taking all preventive measures against COVID-19 pandemic.
