Agartala: The political situation of Tripura has become hostile after the ruling BJP intensified attacks and violence on the opposition with the appearance of Trinamool Congress as a formidable force in state politics.

The anti-incumbency wave against the Biplab Kumar Deb government due to his anti-local policies, large scale corruption, nepotism and vendetta politics within three and half years became an added advantage for Trinamool Congress.

According to oppositions, in three years over 3300 incidents of violence mostly on the opposition CPI-M and Congress have been registered while a large number of party offices of oppositions and houses of their supporters were set on fire. More than 5000 people have been assaulted in Tripura and over a thousand have been on the run after getting life threats from BJP goons.

“Except for a few, opposition parties neither prevent the attacks and the terror tactics of BJP nor can retaliate against them. The police have also become a puppet of the ruling party and emerged as the shield for BJP goons everywhere. As a result, the degree of violence and attacks of BJP has increased manifold and their corruption and nepotism cross all limits,” alleged Trinamool Congress leader Subal Bhowmik here today.

After Trinamool Congress led by Mamta Banerjee formed the government in West Bengal for the third time with absolute majority fighting against several odds including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP party as a whole, Election Commission, CBI, ED, High Court and Supreme Court, people of Tripura have found a ray of hope to lead a better and civilized life and Trinamool congress has responded to the urge here, he stated.

“Since the first day of formation of BJP-IPFT government, violence and terror have taken an institutional shape. Not only BJP but its alliance partner IPFT has also resorted to violence in the hills against other party supporters including BJP and finally in the ADC elections three months ago, hill people elected NGO turned political party Tipra Motha of royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman.
The same is going to be repeated in all the upcoming elections including assembly and Loksabha polls where TMC will take the lead and capture the power,” Bhowmik added.

Worried over the deteriorating situation, a veteran politician and BJP MLA who don’t want to be named said that the state government led by Biplab Kumar Deb was behind the growth of Trinamool Congress in Tripura and made people frustrated who voted BJP to power forgetting their traditional faith on Congress and CPI-M. People believed the election manifesto of BJP and poll promises but in the last three and half years, Tripura moved backwards.

“Biplab Kumar Deb seems to have decided not to allow BJP to exist without him. The central leadership has indicated Deb will be removed along with his entire team of government and the party. Smelling his premature departure from the power, he has started promoting TMC activities in Tripura to ensure that people whom we brought from other parties to BJP should go to Trinamool Congress; otherwise, this situation would have not happened today,” he observed.

Despite strong opposition from most leaders of BJP, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath with the help of a few greenhorn politicians and corrupt bureaucrats sent senior CPI-M leader and former minister Badal Choudhury, former Chief Secretary Y P Singh and Retired Engineer In-chief to three months jail without proper evidence and charges, which finally acted as booster for CPI-M, he opined.

Now, without any rhyme and reason, Chief Minister and Law Minister had compelled police to detain Prashant Kishore’s I-PAC team in a hotel here for three days. Then mobilising cadres to attack him and raising slogans against Trinamool leader Abhisekh Banerjee on his way to Mata Tripureswari temple. Again, how were BJP workers allowed to ransack Trinamool party office in Dharmanagar of North Tripura when CM was present there and attacked Trinamool youth leaders on National Highway in Ambassa in presence of police, he questioned.

“We have taken up the issues and detailed activities of the party president, chief minister and law minister at the top level of the party. They are damaging all prospects of BJP and paving the way to unite all anti-BJP parties under Trinamool Congress. Most importantly, the people of Tripura started rejecting the BJP,” he added.
